Hello Soccer Families,

It’s a busy weekend!  We have a full day of rec games, and two of our competitive teams in a tournament this weekend.  Here is a quick overview of the items discussed in this week’s newsletter:

  • Field Map and Numbers on Game Fields
  • Team and Individual Photos
  • Upcoming Summer Camps
  • LUSC Competitive Teams and Tryouts
  • Understanding Offside

It looks like another great weekend for soccer.  It will be a little cooler and there is a small chance of rain.  As a reminder, you can find out the status of the fields on our home page, by calling the rainout hotline (913) 347-0993.  Option 1 for game fields, option 2 for practice fields or downloading the RainoutLine App for Apple and Android to subscribe to notifications automatically.  If there is a chance for bad weather, the decision to start games will be made by 8:30 a.m. on game days.  If the weather changes throughout the day, changes will be posted as soon as possible.

Field Numbers on Game Fields

We apologize for the delay, this week we were able to put field numbers on the nets to help you navigate to the correct field.  You can also use the field map from our website for a bird’s eye view.

Team and Individual Photos

Allison Burton Photography is taking team and individual photos again this year.  Coaches have received contact information and instructions on how to schedule an appointment with her.  If you would like to take the lead on scheduling with her, contact your coach for more information.

Upcoming Summer Camps

LSA has two summer camps coming up.  We host a week-long International Core Camp presented by Challenger Sports.  The camp is June 5th – 9th and is open to kids ages 3 to 15.  You can find out more information on Challenger’s website or by contacting Mike Perry at mparry@challengersports.com.

Our very own Coach Ken is also hosting Academy Day camps in June and July.  The Academy program is geared towards individual development and small group training to grow each player based on their progression.  Learning is done in a camp like environment, scrimmages, and small-sided games.  Registration is $10 and covers your player for the summer camp and any additional sessions he holds throughout the year.  Registration for the 2023-2024 season will open soon.

LUSC Competitive Teams and Tryouts

Shout out to our U12 boys’ team who have gone undefeated this spring with a 4-0-1 record.  Both our U12 boys and U14 boys play in the KC Champion Cup Tournament this weekend.  Good luck Lightning!

If your child is looking to be challenged at a competitive level, we encourage them to tryout for our competitive teams in June.  Information about the pre-tryout sessions will be held towards the end of May.  Stay tuned for more information.  If you have any questions, reach out to our Vice President, Roy, at vicepresident@leavenworthsoccer.org or visit our website.

Understanding Offside

Offside is one of the most misunderstood rules in soccer.  Without going into the weeds, here is a simple video to help break down Law 11 – Offside.  (the word is singular, there is no “s” at the end.)

See you on the pitch!
