Leavenworth Soccer Association held a community wide equipment swap on September 1st at the practice fields.  Professional women soccer players Elyse Bennett, Izzy Rodriguez, and Chardonnay Curran from the KC Current joined us to sign autographs and take photos, KC Blue Crew was there to represent, and Kona Ice topped off the night with their tasty treats.

Over 100 items were displayed for the swap including shirt, shorts, goalie jerseys, cleats, shin guards, and soccer balls.  A steady stream of families filtered through and were able to take advantage of the great equipment.  LSA President, Tracy Lawler-White, said an event like this is something she’s wanted to do since she joined the club three years ago.  She was happy to finally have it come to fruition and found it very rewarding to see so many families in the community benefit from the gear that was in fantastic shape.

LSA received great feedback about the event!  One of our military mother’s shared that when they played overseas, soccer clubs would have equipment available every game day for anyone who forgot or outgrew their cleats.  We thought that was a great idea and will continue to have items available throughout the season.  Families can donate, swap, or grab whatever they need.  The rack will be located near the concession stand every Saturday.

Additionally, at the last game, we will have a location for players to drop off their equipment and we will prepare to have another swap at the beginning of spring.  We hope to continue this each season going forward.  LSA is looking for a volunteer group to run this program.  If you know of a group who is willing to take on this community project, please reach out to Tracy at president@leavenworthsoccer.org.

Thank all the volunteers who made this event such a great success.  Emily Lawler-White, Stella Lawler-White, Tiffani Withers, Luke Withers, Joy Chalmers, Jackie Williams, and Alexa Beaulieu. Without each of you, this could not have happened.
